At Your Local Psychologist, we work alongside everyday people to help them to identify and break through the barriers that prevent them from living their best life.

We are committed to people feeling respected and heard, and that they have the opportunity to learn new ways to cope with the difficulties that we all face at times in life. At Your Local Psychologist we have a range of fully qualified professionals working with us, including psychologists, counsellors and social workers.

Our counsellor (Mr Jamie Goodison) has a Bachelor of Psychological Sciences and a Masters of Counselling, as well as being a registered member of two professional counselling bodies – the Australian Counselling Association (MACA – Level 2) and the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA – CPC).

Both psychologists and social workers are registered with the National Registration Board called AHPRA. Psychologists may also be members of psychological professional bodies such as the Australian Association of Psychologists Inc. (AAPI) and the Australian Psychological Society (APS), while social workers may be registered with the social workers professional body, the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW).

Social workers may also be Accredited Mental Health Social Workers (AMHSWs), who have been assessed by the AASW, on behalf of the Commonwealth Government, as having specialist expertise in the field of mental health. They are accountable to the AASW Code of Ethics and have committed to, and completed a minimum amount of ongoing, annual, continuing professional development. This is a gold standard in professional recognition for social workers working in the field of mental health.

Psychologists, counsellors and social workers have demonstrated specific skills, knowledge and experience in the field of mental health and continue to complete a minimum amount of ongoing, annual Continuing Professional Development (CPD). All of our therapists practise evidence-based therapy and are continually undertaking training and updating our knowledge, so that they remain current to best practice mental health treatments and tools.
